  • Overview

    Technical Accounting Advisory Group Director will primarily be responsible for owning and managing the preparation of technical accounting research to ensure compliance and consistency with U.S. GAAP and relevant U.S. consumer finance institution guidance as promulgated by the FDIC, FRB, OCC, and SEC.

    Responsibilities

    • Delivers guidance and advisory services to stakeholders in connection with the application of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to new, significant and/or non-routine transactions including, but not limited to, for example, revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), unique business arrangements and other areas, as needed.
    • Prepares technical accounting analyses that must be on a consistently proactive basis, well documented, soundly reasoned and demonstrate a clear understanding of covered business activities.
    • Establishes and maintains strong, collaborative working relationships with finance partners and other stakeholders to understand the business and to provide ongoing guidance on existing and new business initiatives.
    • Monitors standard setting developments in GAAP that could impact the Company's accounting policies, practices and disclosures. Ability to research and interpret technical accounting guidance, document conclusions in an organized logical manner, and ability to discuss conclusions with management.
    • Participates in the presentation of interpretative views to management that pertain to new or non-standard transactions or standard setting developments in GAAP.
    • Collaborates with key stakeholders in driving the implementation of new accounting and reporting requirements while ensuring that the Company's accounting policies comply with new authoritative guidance.
    • Reviews business requirements for new systems, provides direction on systems development (related to accounting functionality) and supports testing efforts on an as needed basis.
    • Reviews disclosures to be made in the Company's financial statements and collaborates with financial reporting resources to ensure accuracy and completeness of such information.
    • Participates in the development of and delivery of internal accounting, policy and reporting training courses.
    • Assess new legal entities for proper accounting in accordance with VIE and consolidation guidance.
    • Lead the Company in implementation of new accounting standards, main point of contact regarding any technical accounting assessment and compliance, and serve as a company-wide technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives
    • Provide ad-hoc technical accounting research and analysis for issues and transactions that arise, and identify accounting issues that relate to multiple lines of business and develop and implement resolutions

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors in Accounting.
    • Certified Public Accountant
    • 4+ years of recent public accounting experience. Big 4 experience is preferred.
    • Excellent knowledge and understanding of US GAAP and US RAP for financial institutions.
    • Extensive technical accounting project/research experience

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position may have supervisory responsibilities.

     

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

     

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday with some schedule variations as needed.

     

    Travel

    This position will require up to 10% travel.
