Overview

The Database Administrator II will play a vital role in managing and optimizing our database infrastructure across various platforms. This position will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, development, and performance of critical databases with primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, Amazon Redshift, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Amazon RDS. The qualified candidate will display excellent problem solving, analytical, communication, coordination and task management skills. Additionally, experience with AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure as code (IaC) will be valuable. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

 

This is a full-time position based in our Spartanburg, SC office. The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite during regular business hours.

Essential Functions

  • Take lead role in maintenance and support of in-house SQL application databases, AWS enterprise data warehouse and BI implementations
  • Maintenance and management of database environments, Cloud and on-premise’ for multiple line-of-business applications
  • Assist with support of line-of-business applications and data issues
  • Planning and executing database monitoring, maintenance, patching and upgrades, and work with infrastructure teams for scheduled maintenance and upgrades
  • Work with Information Security team to define and implement standards, controls and security; adhere to IT audit requirements
  • Implement database authorization rules, perform security audit, and perform platform assessment regarding proper support for the selected databases.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and engage in problem solving on these projects
  • Collaborate with application architects, product managers, business analysts and technical management team to design, develop and document databases, schemas, tables, functions, triggers, procedures, relationships and other necessary aspects of the database
  • Contribute to design and develop complex database design from high level business requirements. Must be able to provide database design options, alternatives and recommendations based on experience and best practices for database design
  • Establish standards for documentation and ensure that all designs are documented.
  • Work with a team of analysts and Engineers to promote best practices in the organization
  • Vendor and service partner interactions
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon RDS.
  • In depth experience with database installation, configuration and upgrade.
  • In-depth knowledge of Database backup and recovery of very large databases, typically multi-terabytes.
  • In-depth knowledge of database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL tuning, optimizing complex SQL statements for best possible performance.
  • Knowledge of data replication & data modeling
  • Good knowledge with AWS cloud services.
  • Ability to automate DBA tasks with strong scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, AWS CloudFormation).
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Experience with database security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • AWS, Azure, or Microsoft SQL Server certifications are a plus.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time in office position. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday. After hours, nights and weekends should be expected from time to time. Hours may vary or exceed 40 in any given week depending on the needs of the business. 

 

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.
